You've Got Mail

>>  Thursday, April 8, 2010

My boys love to help. One of the more desired tasks is checking the mail. At some point, {early on} they wanted to know what -of the things retrieved, was addressed to them.

Because they are not in demand {by which I mean the bills aren't addressed to them}, I began rewarding them with the endless credit card offers and like junk mail -telling them is was for them.

I have a feeling that this may cause me problems, as Mo-Tay is reaching the point that he recognizes some words -especially his own name. It's not going to take much longer before he realizes the name on the front of the envelope isn't his. I might have to start legitimately mailing things to my boys. I don't know if I can bear the heartbreak that will surely ensue if the mail suddenly 'stops'. Truly. You should see how their eyes light up when they find brightly colored inserts or those fake plastic credit cards with the -YOUR NAME HERE- printed on the front.

I actually hate getting the mail because it's never anything I want to get. I hate junk mail.

I love that...we do the same thing with our 4 year old...I was just talking to my husband about the fact that he will probably catch on soon.

i love mail too.. well, that is as long as it's not bills, which it normally is!!!

maybe since they are beginning to read... you could start sneaking out there and putting little letters and cards a couple of time a week for them.. i think it's so cute!!

It's so fun to see them get so excited about mail. My kids are always asking for treasures from the mailbox. My 1st grader even started writing to grandma and aunts and a friend that moved away in hopes she'd get mail but it's so hard to keep up on. Esp when they see me getting bills everyday. I tell her it's not as fun as it looks. :) haha

Maybe when you go on vacation or even around town you buy post cards and send them to your kids.. when they're old enough encourage them to send to other people. its cheaper and snail mail is so awesome to give and receive!
