Children are Like Sponges

If you don't believe me, I dare you to spend an hour with just about any aged child.

For the mothers in the room {or just the well versed with children}, you know all too well what I am talking about.

Even when I am positive my boys aren't listening, my exact words and or actions will be regurgitated on me at some point. Sometimes days, if not weeks later. Never fails.

One of my most recent moments, I was confident my oldest (Mo-Tay) wasn't listened when I tried to explain to him that replying to someone with "Whatever" and an attitude, is not a nice response.

Now, everytime I say {Whatever}, I get "Whatever's not Very Nice! We don't talk to people like that". *Sigh*

Now if I could get him to absorb my words when I tell him "Stupid is not an acceptable word in this house"

They hear everything. EVERYTHING. And you wonder what they're repeating outside the house too.

We get a lot of parents into our counseling center who think that their kids don't know what's going on at home. They ALWAYS know.

I wish that "whatever" was the worst thing that my kids have repeated. I tend to have a little more "colorful" vocabulary. Sad but true and they have all repeated some treasure that has come out of my mouth. You think I would learn my lesson. *sigh*

haha I'm glad I don't have kids yet! Who knows what they'd repeat!

When you get a grip on the stupid comment, please let me know what worked! That is a horrible word that is screamed a lot around here. By the kids... LOL

I used to teach preschool and you would not believe the stories kids would come in with about the things their parents said or did at home.

Why IS it tha the negative stuff is much easier for them to absorb? It makes me crazy, too!

Oh yeah, this brings back memories of learning how easy it is for toddlers to swear, just ask my Dh.

My son's imaginary friend is named Stupid. Just what am I supposed to say about that? Haha!

It's so so true. I am always amazed when my kids start quoting tv shows or repeat things my hubby and I say. I dont know why but it always startles me.
