Misses, Womens, Plus Sizes..Oh My!
>> Wednesday, September 2, 2009
I've got one word for the clothing industry...specifically the women's clothing industry...BLECH! I resent you all. After an assessment of my clothing situation, it was decided that I was in need of a few skirts and/or frilly dress like things.
In light of my new found needs, I mustered up all the energy I could find, packed a lunch and put on my most comfortable shoes. All of my preparations, turning out to be very necessary.
I discovered some very important things while on this expedition to depression:
-My addiction to purses has been reaffirmed.
-There are only two sizes that one must consider-
Size-There is no freakin' way my backside will fit in that
OR
Size-BIG GIRLS
-And last, but most poignant...
There is either a real skinny girl or a non-caring dude designing some of the clothes found in the Plus Size sections. My suspicion that it is a team of both (the girl and the dude). Laughing as they design hideous prints that accentuate the curves I am trying to conceal, while everything else offers a very tent like appearance. No Thanks!!
Praise to the sweet gal at C.J. Banks that was able to salvage my afternoon with two skirts that fit me perfectly. Because, at this point not even the new purse I had scored was making me feel any better.
Disclaimer: I am in no way trying to poke fun at women of any size, other than myself. I (of all people) know that we come in various sizes, shapes and colors. Being one that varies in shape AND size, clothes shopping can be very discouraging in this day and age. Everything tends to be geared towards everyone but me..at least that is how it feels when you've tried on 600 skirts, in an attempt to buy just ONE!

I'm going to visit my daughter this weekend and try to find some minimizing garments myself. I'm frightened.
There is a reason I look like frump girl.... I refuse to shop. But if I did, I hear Dress Barn has cute stuff in plus sizes.
I hate shopping for clothes, guaranteed to lower my self esteem and make me cranky. Where is CJ banks?
When I'm not pregnant, i'm a plus size girl and I hate it. In the 6 years i've been married I went from a 6 to a 16. I hate shopping and I refuse to do it until I HAVE to.
Sorry your day was crappy but at least you found something cute!!
I hear you loud and clear.
I am glad your shopping trip was saved by CJ Banks and a new purse.
Oh you should call me next time you are shopping, I love to pick out stuff for other people, and I love love love to shop!
It IS frustrating!
That is exactly the experience I had when I went to look for a new dress a few weeks ago. What's with the hideous prints in plus-size? The clothing industry sucks...
They are just out to get us... This is a universal problem... At least you found a skirt!
I'm glad you found two skirts that work for you! (After a terribly frustrating afternoon, of course.) Are you wearing one of them today?
It's hard if you don't have a certain body type. Even just having boobs and hips can make you look heavier in certain clothes!
i completely know how you feel... i won't lie i like things... but sometimes.. the shopping part is just sooo not worth it at all!
I hear ya, sister! Are most of the clothing designers mad because they can't all design red carpet wear so they take it out on those of us who will only see a red carpet if a child is playing with a red marker on the carpet.
And being a large woman, I find fat jokes hilarious! But only if told by other fat people. Skinny people have no business telling them.
expedition to depression- hits the nail squarely on the head!!
and i agree- plus size clothing is awful- and way gaudy. all the time!
Try being plus sized horizontally AND vertically! Now, there is a challenge. Geez! Short people can always hem something - how am I supposed to add 3 inches to pants and sleeves when they are just not there? Grrrr! I totally feel your shopping pain! So glad you found a purse! Gotta love a new purse!

I'm not a fan of shopping in general. If I happen to randomly find something it's a miracle, but when I go out looking I get discouraged fast!
I hate shopping for and trying on clothes...I'll end up buying what I think will fit and try them on at home. Usually they go back in the bag to get returned.
Ah, sorry clothes shopping is no fun. I don't think any woman, no matter what size, likes to try on clothes in those horribly lighted and fully mirrored dressing rooms.
I love to shop, but not for clothes for myself.
I do think that ALL clothes are designed by a size 0 girl. My size 0 girl looks good in everything, so I know this has got to be the case.
In order to get something to look good on me, I require the use of Spanx or other tummy flattening shapewear. Otherwise, tent is my only option!
So I could have written your post myself. I have a confession to make,. I will wear a size large shirt no problems but I refuse to buy pants in a numerical size greater then 10. If they do not fit i will not buy bigger. And WTF size 0 there should be no such size! What happened to vanity sizing really? I would spend way more money to wear a smaller size hahahh
