Operation: Be Prepared (Week 11)
>> Tuesday, September 1, 2009
This Weeks List:
2 Large Cans Juice*
Large Plastic Food Bags
2 Boxes High-Energy Snacks
3 Rolls Paper Towels
Things To Do:
Keep extra battery for cell phone or change for pay phone usage and make sure these items are with your survival supplies.
Locate several pay phones that are near your home.
Tidbits:
I have taken the maps purchased during Week 3 and marked pay phone locations as well as public buildings (i.e. churches etc) that have accessible landline telephones.
A wise man once encouraged me to ensure that I have a traditional phone..at least one, somewhere in my home. In the digital age we live in, so many of us have portable handsets. In cases where the power is out, those handsets will not work, where a traditional 'plug-in-the-wall' phone will continue to work if telephone service has not been interrupted.
Also..something to think about....There is also the possibility that ones cell phone could stop working in the event of a widespread power outage. Depending on the circumstances, local landlines will continue to function. Yet another reason to either have a traditional phone line, an idea of where you can locate one.

I have a traditional phone at my house for just that reason. Great ideas and tips!!

What if the kiddos have already lost your brand new phone?
We actually have a rotary dial phone for emergencys. My kids LOVE it!
We don't have a regular phone, and it's something I have been thinking more about.
Nice thoughts. Thank you!
Remember that awesome 72hr kit that I ordered from the internet? It even has a wind up cell phone charger. It sits in the front room, right by the front door, so we can grab it if we need it. Thanks for the inspiration.
I have one traditional phone in my house too. And those are incredibly hard to find anymore!
Your feed is still not updating for me but I JUST put you in my sidebar list so that should help! :)
Portable Solar chargers are becoming better and better and lower in price too. Thanks for spreading the word about corded phones, when I worked as a homecare nurse, it was mandatory for our ventilator pts to have one. Also, keeping cash on hand including change and bills is important, because ATMS along w/phones don't work either. Thank you, H.E.
Our forbearers were very wise- they used cow chips for fuel- or if they were very very lucky, they had the Rolls Royce of dug---The Buffalo Chip- Love fatherson
