Carpet Drama

So here's the deal. I ranted and raved and made everyone envious with my news that I had new carpet on its way. It's here. It's in. It's not what I thought I ordered.
Let me clarify. It is what we ordered..in a round about way. When My better half called the carpet company we asked them to pull our file and find out what we had previously used (downstairs), because that is what we wanted to replace our upstairs berber with.
Here's where things get a little complicated. My hubby, his dad and his brothers have all bought carpet from this same company. Its kind of a 'friend of the family' type affair. Well, they did pull the file, and they ordered exactly the carpet that had been put in previously...in my brother-in-laws house (Kyle, Kenny, Cory...they all are all the same, right?!)
So, as they rolled it out, the confusion set in...it quickly became too late to do a whole lot about it. Sure, we could have asked them to stop and take it back. But really, there is no one to blame. In the end I LOVE the carpet that was put down yesterday.
However, when I got home last night...tired, hungry, and excited to make carpet angels in my living room, I was devastated to discover that it was the wrong carpet. I cried. I cried........... then I cried some more.
Today, I am okay with it. I actually think we got a prettier carpet. Its softer, more comfortable on the feet and compliments the tile that is already in our dining room much better than the carpet we thought we were getting.
Today, however..I'm not quite ready to rant and rave or share pictures. I'm still just a tiny bit heart-broken. Now..before you call me a spoiled brat or ungrateful, just hear me out. I am TRULY grateful and actually think this little 'mishap' benefits us in the long run (better carpet. softer carpet. more forgiving.)
Having said that, getting this carpet was an emotional roller coaster ride. We went from wanting it, being able to afford it, to not being able to afford it, to having to replace at least one room (because of THIS), to not having the money..on and on..and so on. So when things fell into place and everything went our way, the delivery and installation of the carpet was the reward (for all the discussions over money, the work it took to remove the old carpet, and the inconvenience it was living on plywood floors for days). When it showed up and wasn't what I had invisioned, it was as if someone had taken my reward. I had earned a trophy only to have it taken away.
Maybe tomorrow, maybe next week. I will share pictures. I will even invite those interested to come and see (for some of you..all you need to do is look to your own toes, its the same carpet you sit on). But it's going to have to be on my terms. This time anyways.

i dont think your spoiled for being a bit upset... when you have in your mind that you want a certain thing, then someone takes that away- it would upset me too.... but i also think your being very optomistic and happy after the itial shock!
I can totally understand being disappointed! I hope it grows on you!
So, it just takes a minute or two for the brain to switch gears! I am proud of you for recognizing so quick that this is merely a happy accident.
I am so sorry! I am sure that you will really like it after the upset part has worn off. I am sure it looks beautiful in your house.
REading your post takes me back to a time several years ago when we were having a house built. I chose and ordered paint, except I didn't try it in the light exposure our house would have so what I thought would be a neutral beige type color turned out to be baby pink! The mistake was mine and we had to live with it for 4 years - til we could afford to have it repainted...I feel your pain, and yes, it sucks.
just because i'm curious...whose carpet did you end up with?
Isnt it crazy how improvements on our home invoke such crazy emmotions? I know the I want it I need it but can I afford it all to well!
I think you're lucky in the long run. My mom ordered a 12x10 carpet for her room, and they brought a 10x10, but charged her for 12x10. At least you wound up with nicer carpet!
Actually I think you are doing a great job of making lemonade out of the lemons you got handed. Don't worry about taking time to adjust, I think you are doing good with it already!
This happened to me in my last house. Wrong carpet in the entire house. I cried for weeks. But then the clouds cleared and the sun came out again and we moved! lol!
Hang in there, girl! I am here for you! Hugs!
Whoa! Is this a common thing that people order something and when the wrong item comes they accept it?? I'm sorry, but if I'm paying hard earned money for something, I want what I ordered, whether it's a meal or a carpet. I mean, if you like the new carpet and they gave you an upgrade for a lower price, hallelujah! But if you really didn't like it and you had to pay more for it...I'd say, "Rip it up baby, that's not what I ordered. Your mistake. Your loss." I believe after reading your most recent post, that you are very happy with the carpet though, so that's a good thing. Sorry I've blabbed on. It's another sleepless night for me & I'm a bit gloopy.
