A Four Letter Word

>>  Saturday, November 8, 2008

Earlier today, Kyle and I headed to the local library for their annual book sale. We strapped both boys in their respective strollers and made our way through the shelves of books. As I stood looking at various books, looking for books to add to my collection, a small boy approached the shelf.

Not quite sure footed, he grabbed a shelf -heavy with books, pulling it down on Mason who was sitting in his stroller. Without missing a beat, my sweet and innocent looking child muttered a four lettered word. It started with S and rhymed with SIT.

I was dumb-founded. Not because I had never heard this world -or for that matter used it, but for the fact that it has just spilled from the lips of my three year old. Knowing that this particular word is not one of my vices (as mine starts with a D and rhymes with Ram), I leaned down and asked my sweet Mason where he had heard this word, to which he replied "Don't Know". I followed up by instructing him that it was not appropriate, that none of us should use it and that he needed to apologize -which he did.

I then had a little chat with my husband, where it was discovered to be one of Kyles vices. Both Kyle and Mason were instructed that if this word was heard in our house again, that liquid soap would become a regular staple in their diets. Now lets just hope I can keep my vice word from rolling off my boys tongue, I don't particularly like the taste of soap either.

Haha, I wish my mom had threatened me with a washed out mouth. Now I've ended up being minorly foul-mouthed. I've begun to catch myself, but hopefully since you've caught it young he'll know better than to use naughty words in the future.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!! That is GREAT!! My kids have repeated swear words and it its all because of me. But at least mine do the little ones--my niece has been known to drop the F bomb on several occasions (thanks to my brother) and soap was the answer!!

You were way to young to remember but there was a time when Grandma Marion used D_m it all to H_ll on a regular basis. Yes I know "Marion the Librarian" using fowl language. Hard to beleive. She recongnized the copy ability of young minds and changed her ways-Better now than later- Some one used a HARD punch to my chin causing a bloody tongue when I dropped the F bomb as a teen. Guess who that wise mom like figure was?? Love Fatherson

That is funny! Kids pick up the strangest things. My kids used to think shut up was a swear word.
