Danielle, Dee, Dannie....What's in a Name?
>> Wednesday, June 22, 2011
Before getting back to my regular ramblings, I want to express a HUGE Thank You...To EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU! The out-pouring of love I felt after my last post was tremendous! A girl couldn't ask for a more understanding and compassionate group of people! Telling ones story {out loud} can be hard {and intimidating}. So THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Now...back to our scheduled programming......................
It's no secret that my name is Danielle.
Really, how could that be a secret? {It's printed right there, at the bottom of every post. Never mind the fact that it would be nearly impossible to avoid the unavoidable if someone was to ask "What's your name?"}
But, I digress...
As a kid, I was always known as Danielle. My dad had nick-names for me {none to be discussed here, thankyouverymuch}, but shortening my name and calling me Dani, was not allowed.
Somewhere in high school however, things changed.
I got lax on enforcing the rules and friends started calling me Dee. Still to this day, my high school friends refer to me as Dee.
It wasn't long after adopting Dee, that Dani came along.
I'm sure....no...I KNOW it had everything to do with a certain boy {now husband}. His family liked to call me Dani and I just went with it. Being smitten will do that to a girl.
But in true Me fashion..... you can call me Danielle, you can call me Dee, you can even call me Dani....but for the record it's Spelled...DANNIE. Two n's an i and an e.
Makes no sense to me either, but Me fashion is all about me -making up rules.
4 Pepsi Points :
No matter what your moniker, I love you!
I totally forgot about a certain poster calling you Dee! I wonder what happened to her?
Hello Ms. Dannie - I actually love your name and all versions of it. You're Mom "did good". I went through a similar situation with "Deborah", Debra", "Debbie", "Debbi", "Debby", "Deb". Any of those work for me but everyone seems to get "Sweet Tea" right, so that works for me!
BTW, you'll want to jump over to my Blog and join my "Slacker Cook Give-Away". FUN!!
As someone who has two states of people who refer to me as Jessie (and I try not to cringe visibly each time), I feel your nickname pain.
