@#$& Auto-Correct

>>  Wednesday, September 8, 2010

I'm a texter. By texter, I mean, I text all.the.time. I'm can pound out full conversations with two thumbs on that qwerty keyboard of mine. One thing I don't do is use a lot of text lingo. No LOL, IDK's or U and UR's here. I'm one of those lame texters that can fill your screen with full words and punctuation. Most of it being created by my phones handy {and sometimes annoying} auto-fill and auto-correct feature.

Raise your hand if you have the auto-fill and auto-correct feature on your phone; you may know exactly why I have dubbed it as: {sometimes annoying}.

While it allows me to be my compulsive self and enter anticipated punctuation with nothing more than a double tap of the space bar, it also has a tendency to be one of those Know-It-All types...that doesn't really know it all.

Apparently when I announce (via text) that I'm headed to Farmington {with an F and a ton}, it is sure that I really meant Arlington. Farmington, Arlington....that is only like a 600,000 mile difference. Although, that would put an adventurous spin on my errand running. Don't you think?

So, if I call you Tuna and your name is really Tina, the auto-correct made me do it.

If I tell you I'm headed to Arlington, just know that my phone is convinced that is where we are going.

If you get sassy with me and I reply with "Smart ADD" {because apparently my phone also has a sensor}, you best know what I mean. I don't think you are smart at adding....If you know what I mean.

Do you experience texting woes?

I dont have a an auto correct feature because my phone is crazy old school. I do LOVE texting though. I'd way rather text a bunch of people then call one. I'm glad my name isn't Tuna. That's funny what it decides to replace things with. I wonder why id doesnt recognize common things like Tina or sassy.

One of my children has a fairly uncommon name and every time I would type it in my phone would auto-correct it to "Faston". So frustrating. But then one day that smart little phone remembered my threats and started getting it right! Pretty cool!

I have that turned off! I text words fully too. I love texting!

My husband has an iPhone and I'm always jealous because it seems more accurate at predicting what you're trying to type (it's not T9 or whatever; it seems more based on what words you tend to frequently use). I'm always amused, though, when it auto-corrects into something funny. Like when I start to type in my hometown it recommends "Atrocious ..."

I am SO like you with texting! I utilize the autocorrect and then have to correct the auto sometimes unless I'm in a hurry. So yeah, I'm sure I've called Tina Tuna sometimes, too. ;)

I'm not a big texter but when I do I like to spell out words too. I don't think I have the feature turned on on my phone to auto-correct, which it sounds like is a good thing!

Trying writing Honky tonk. Won't do it.

How funny! Who's the smart add? :)

Stephanie 11 September, 2010 09:52

Ha HA. I turned that feature off. It made me crazy!

I'm a huge texter. I'm not a fan of the auto correct. I think I finally have my phone trained to realize that haha does not equal Hathock. Why in the world would I want to type Hathcock in a text?
