This Weeks List:
Waterproof, Portable Container for Important Documents
Battery-Powered Radio
Wrench to turn off Utilities
Things To Do:
Make sure everyone knows where to find the gas and water meter shut off valves and hot to turn them off.
Attach a wrench near each shut-off valve so it is there when needed.
Tidbits:
Although a typical wrench would do the job, I found this handy little device at a Emergency Essentials.
I keep most of my important documents in a waterproof/fireproof save. Rather than having to worry about retrieving those items, I made copies and placed them in my waterproof container..which is stored with my survival supplies. Making the container, accessible and ready to go.
8 Pepsi Points :
That is a handy little device!
And, you know...I don't even know where those shut offs are!
You are so smart!
Ooh, I never thought about having a waterproof container in my 72 hour kit. I put all of my important papers in a gallon sized baggie and they fit just right. But a waterproof container is a good idea too.
Yup we have a safe too.
We have most of our documents backed up in a bunch of different places.
But, we should get a safe.
when my brother and his wife lost their house in a tornado Easter weekend, they were glad they had all of their important papers in a fireproof safe--it survived the tornado and it was easy for them to find. I hate to admit that I don't have our important papers put away like that, but I will make it a priority to work on it this week. Thanks Danielle for your emergency preparedness blogs!
oh, i never thought about the waterproof container, i always say that my biggest fear in case of fire is losing sentimental stuff, all my photos, the kids baby prints and pictures they've drawn me, but its not just fire that can ruin all my precious things. xxx
We have our gas cut off valve wrench secured to the valve with zipline ties. We've also taught our sons how to turn off the gas and water. Which reminds me that I need to review this again w/them, about every 6 months we talk about earthquake prep. Thanks, E.V.
