Victory is Sweet!

I can’t tell you how many times I have been told to “pick your battles” when dealing with my boys. Sometimes I am successful, sometimes..not so much.

Every night we wage the same war. My oldest and I acting as the main participants in said war. Every night, I tell my Mo-tay to “go get your pajamas”. To which he will undoubtedly reply with “I can’t” or my personal favorite “I’m too big”. When and IF I am able to convince to him to retrieve his pajamas or I give in and find them for him, it only sparks yet another battle. One that begins with me saying “put your pajamas on.” The two of us can go back and forth with my demands being met by the same to lines “I can’t” and “I’m too big”…. FOREVER.

I just didn’t feel like battling last night. I had left my sword and shield in the garage and just wasn’t feeling it. So I sent him to bed with no pajamas. For those of you that know my Mo-tay he is very obsessive compulsive. His little world is planned, predicted, and maintained. Part of that includes always wearing pajamas. He is not the kind to be put to bed in just a diaper on a warm night. Not happening.

Upset with me, I could hear him in his room rummaging around, fussin’ about the fact that he had been put to bed without pajamas. When he quieted down, I couldn’t resist going in to see what kind of destruction had taken place as part of his protests. I was surprised to find the contents of his pajama drawer, laying on the floor, and him sound asleep….clothed in pajamas. Proving that I know what I’m talking about when I tell him “Yes! You can put on your pajamas..”

That's so funny! He looks so peaceful.

That's hilarious. They sure are precious when they're sleeping.

Mine has to have pajamas on before bed as well, BUT half of the time he ends up taking them off before he falls asleep. Kills me.

That was a good battle - especially since he thinks he won. That's the best!

My boy hates his PJs too. Unfortunately he will strip nekkid and sleep like that in protest. Oh well.

That is an adorable sleeping picture.

Oh I love it! Maybe this will be a turning point.

Ashlee 12 March, 2009 09:11

Mine are the complete opposite. They would both sleep pajama-less if we would let them.

Missy 12 March, 2009 09:36

Too funny! I love that pic! He is an angel!

It feels wonderful to know that even when we don't think our children are listening to us that they turn around and show us that they are listening!! Great Job!! :}

I'm so feeling you on this one. My six-year-old has had to have some tough love when it comes to the "I can'ts", you know what I mean. Looks like you did the right thing, and got your reward with a sleeping child. Good job, Mom!

I have the same battles with The Diva. And she says the same thing, "I can't", "I'm too little" (now since her 4th birthday, its "I'm too big"), "I can't find them", "I lost them", etc.

I'm glad to know my daughter isn't weird and I am not a bad Mommy.

WOW what a good boy you have there mama. Now can I borrow him. My son would never put his pj's on and put himself in bed. WTG!

ps I luv that you sign all your photos no stealing that way. I have to figure out how to do that.

Love it! The taste of victory is sweet. I think it is funny that he says he is too big. The Pea insists she is too tired.

Baby Rocket Dog and Hootie 13 March, 2009 02:45

Glad he put his jammies on.It seems you outfoxed him after all! It's hard to be tough on such cuties. I was thinking (before finishing your story) he might be afraid of the dark, that was why he wouldn't get his pj's, but it looks like he was just being strong willed. Little victories Momma! Blessings,Cassie (using the dogs blog--too lazy to change over)
