Creatures of Habit
>> Saturday, March 7, 2009
Have you ever noticed what creatures of habit we all are? I’m not sure some of us even notice. On long uneventful days, I will sit at my desk, and as I work, I keep my google minimized in my task bar.
In the morning, my google reader is over-flowing with the posts published over-night. If I sit down and work at it, it can take me until almost 10am to get through the steady trickle of posts that continue to appear.
But it seems, as lunch time approaches, things begin to slow down. Seldom will you see anything until its almost quitting time. But something magical happens between 5:06pm and 6:00pm. It’s as if the bloggy heavens open up and pour out its love. I can return after the dinner hour to an over-whelming number of posts awaiting their turn, quietly in the depths of the google reader.
Just as quickly as the heavens opened up, things will come to a sudden halt. It seems until late evening. Not only does the posting come to a halt, but the commenting does as well! Its quite entertaining to see.
My speculation is this:
Many of us, begin our day with blogging. Continue on to live our lives and then return again at the end of the day..or at my house…after the kidlet’s have gone to slumber.
I don’t think many of us realize that is what we do. But if you watch closely, you will begin to see a pattern. There are blogs that post at generally the same time, some even on particular days. I too, do the same thing. I know I do, because if I draft anything it gets scheduled for the 7 o’clock hour, regardless. Very seldom do I post and publish. I typically draft and schedule.
I don't think there is anything wrong, either way. I just find it fascinating to watch. How different we all are, some of us living worlds apart..but we (being human) have a tendency to act so very similar.

That is how I do it too. Morning and after the boy is in bed.
I am definitely a creature of habit and usually blog in the morning and then in the afternoon. I have noticed that many bloggers comment the same times each day. I love your blog and will be back.
I have noticed this as well. But sometimes if I get a minute in the middle of the day I'll check and see if blogs have been updated and read then.
I've always noticed this. I always post on M-W-F between the 8-9 AM hour. And when I wake up, there are usually between 75-100 blogs on my reader. I also notice that between 4:30-7:30 PM, my stats go down.
I think we do what works for us. But sometimes, my Reader is daunting!!
So true!
Hey you! What are you doin poking around my brain!? I was just thinking about this! I'm so glad you posted about it!
It seems that my blogger is not updating my blogroll posts in a timely manner. I was actually blogstalking a bit yesterday and didn't see new posts up for some of my stalkees. I checked this morning..they are updated, but showing they've been up since yesterday morning! Now that's a big bunch of hooey!! I missed commenting on some blogs because it appeared that had not been updated!!! Sigh...
What to do, oh Queen???
I'm a random Blogger, so you just never know when I'm gonna pop in.
BOO!!
I agree!
Exactly what I do. First thing in the morning I check out what is going on, and then again in the evening. I do tend to pop on in mid afternoon when I am watching my soaps, though:)
He he... You nailed me!! Love your analytical study however!!
My life is so random that I have no set time. Wait. I take it back. I guess I usually post around midnight because I have insomnia! You're right. Hey, Thx for your kind words about my dum-dum move the other day. You are appreciated!
It never ceases to amaze me that no matter where we live or what culture we come from that for the most part humans feel and act the same way. We all have different personalities but these are scattered as well - thanks for the deep insight!! :]
I've always noticed that! That's why I don't get bugged about comments until the evening AFTER I post something.
This was so interesting! I often wonder about when the most popular days and times are to blog, and now I have a better idea of it. I used to be more habitual about my posting, but lately it's been whenever I have the energy for it. Sometimes I draft and schedule, like you, other times I publish as soon as I'm done with a new post.
