What's In a Name?
>> Monday, October 20, 2008
I have had several people, okay maybe like 2-3 or three -but that can be a whole lot in my little world, ask the meaning behind the name chosen for this, my blog. I’ve thought about posting about it, and just never got around to it until now –Having been inspired by the post of two blogs that I stalk. The FIRST post, addressed ones user name. In my case when I create a post or comment on a blog, I’m known as Me. The SECOND post, addressed the actual Blog Title, and how such things come into being.
So here it is, the truth. The insights to all my secrets and how it has all come to be. First of all, the Blog Title. Its meaning is two fold really. Like it states, An Eagles View. Coming here is your chance to get an Eagles Eye View of things happening in my world. See things from my perspective and how it is affecting me.
A much deeper meaning and the reality of it all stems from a little family secret that we poise ourselves as eagles. Before you begin laughing and gawking at the absurdness of it all, if absurdness is really a word. Just listen….You have all heard the saying “Take the High Road”, “Be the Bigger Person”. Have you not? Somewhere, somehow, that equated to “Fly above it all” –Like an Eagle. When people frustrate you, or do stupid things, just let them be. It didn’t take long before the serious tone of it all became a joke. And those around us, if acting stupid -were soon to be considered Pigeons. As pigeons at times, can be considered nuisance birds, pecking along all day eating and oblivious to the world around them.
Before long we inherited a long list of bird-like characteristics to identify people that annoy or frustrate us. For example, the Magpie. Although pretty to look at, they open their mouths and all you hear is Squawk, Sqauwk! Those are the loud, the naysayers, or those incessant talkers. You know the kind that talk and talk and talk, but never seem to make any sense. If one of is having a bad day, or heading into a situation that is uncomfortable because of the people around us, you would hear “Don’t step in the Pigeon Poo” or “I just stepped in Pigeon Poo”. Or another common line used when frustrated is “It’s hard to soar like the Eagle that I am, when I have to deal with the pigeons”.
So in short, we are Eagles, sometimes flying with pigeons, magpies and other birds of sort. Before moving on, and as a side note. We are not declaring that we are superior to any other family or person for that matter. This is simply our way of coping -if you will, with some of the challenges that we meet from day to day and the people that we don’t understand, or in some cases misunderstand us.
As for my user name, ME. It truly is just that simple. I am Me. You are not Me, I am not You. I am Me. For as long as I can remember I have always signed letters and notes to my parents and husband as -Me. Usually in cursive, separating itself from the rest of the text. That’s just who I am. That is who I will always be, ME. Some may have noticed that my husband, when he is kind of enough to leave comments, appears as The Better Half of Me. No explanation needed there, it’s the truth.
So there you have it. The meaning to my lifes’ best kept secrets –well they used to be secrets. And if you hear me say, “Don’t step in the Pigeon Poo”, you know to be careful, for you are dealing with the stupid.

Cool way to pick a blog name and to remind yourself who you are. Thanks for the story.
I like the background of your names.
Mine isn't really all that tricky.
Good to know--good to know!
That was fun to learn... My blog name was by accident. I couldn't think of anything else... and I figured my url would be easy to remember because I am always saying that!
My high school mascot was an Eagle so I always feel welcome here.
Thanks me, I will be careful not to step in the pigeon poo - nor dole it out! :0)
great post. and i must say that pigeons are pests. we have a family of pigeons roosting above my son's bedroom window. and we can hear them. all the time. and they make a mess. argh. i would much prefer an eagle. would you like to roost there? that would be an honor.
btw- how are your utes doing?
Great story behind the name.
Thanks for sharing!
I wish I went to Annie's high school. My elementary school's mascot was an eagle and so was my middle school's.
Very interesting! I like the background story. This was kind of like "Pop-up Video" for blogs!
