Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star

Each night I tuck Mason into bed, and we go through the same routine of "Hug" "Kiss" "Mo" "Noggin". The routine typically ends with him yelling "Mommee" as I reach to pull his bedroom door shut, followed by some sort of request. This being done as a last ditch effort to get me to stay in his room, thus delaying him having to lay down and close his eyes.
Tonight was no different. As he yelled "Mommee" I expected the usual "I need a drink" or "One more story". But oh no, his request was "I want Twinkle". All of which caught me off guard. First of all, I was not sure what he was asking for, until he repeated himself and I realized that he was asking me to sing Twinkle Twinkle, Little Star. This is the point that I announce that I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket if my life depended on it. I don't sing to my boys, I provide them with age appropriate CD's and we dance a lot.
But, how could I resist such a request? Never mind the fact that I don't know what triggered this new request. We are typically a tuck me in and read me a book kind of family. Occasionally Kyle will make up a story or act out the Three Little Pigs. But sing? I don't think so. However, I gave in. I sang quietly, as to not scare him or myself. I could feel my face flushing with embarrassment as my 3 year olds grin spread from ear to ear, having had his request for the night fulfilled. I can only imagine what tomorrows night request will be....

To a 3 year-old, I'm sure you sound like an angel.
So sweet!! My kids have made song requests before and I have always fetl un-comfortable but because they are so cute I do it--the things we mommy's do for our children!!
I'm a bad singer, too, but my son doesn't seem to mind. Kids are so unjudgmental!
It's undeniable- The DNA rules- "Glady's where are u going", "Go on home your mudder's calling" and of course "There was a little house in the middle of the woods". If you were answering the genetic demands and fulfilling the emotional longings of your offspring these would already be standards- Just ask yourself the serious question- One Tally Goose---------
