10 Things I Remember from My Childhood

>>  Wednesday, October 22, 2008

I've seen this post dancing through the blog world. Most recently, I saw it HERE. I couldn't help but play along. There are so many things that are fun to reminisce about. So without further ado, 10 of the many things I remember from my childhood:

Rainbow Brite
Who could forget Rainbow Brite and her loyal side-kick Starlight (The horse). I had my very own Rainbow Brite doll. Her outfit was made out of a shimmery metallic material that reflected light and her hair yellow yarn. She was one of my favorite, yet still managed to be discarded as "no longer wanted" in my teenage years. She is one that I wish I had held on to.

SHERA-The Princess of Power

We used to spend hours playing Shera. It was always a fight for who actually got to be Shera. If you lost you had to pick between Heman and Skeletor. I typically ended up as Skeletor, although I was usually one of the only blondes in the group and would have fit the part perfectly.

Transformers-The original Transformers

I rather enjoyed playing with the cars that morphed into super robots. The babysitters boy had a blue semi truck that when transformed created a robot over 12" tall. He was the prized toy.

The California Raisins

They had commericals, Saturday morning cartoons, McDonalds Happy Meal Toys, Figurines and best of all Songs. They were everywhere.

Slap Bracelets

The wonderous slap bracelet. They were all the craze. You could find them in just about every store and fast food restaurants gave them away as prizes in their kids meals. It was all fun and games until kids began getting their wrists slit by the sharp metal that made the bracelet what they were.....Slap Bracelets!

Strawberry Shortcake

Must I say anymore? She smelled good, she had friends that smelled good. Sweet as can be. I never personally had a Strawberry Shortcake doll. Oh how I longed for one as a little girl. I've enjoyed this one coming back.

The Original Beverly Hills 90210

You know- David, Kelly, Dylan, Brenda, Brandon,Donna, Steve and Andrea. Yeah, I still can name them all. Oh how times have changed. The good old days.

Book It

The Book It program. I don't remember the specifics. I do, however, remember monthly grade school read-a-thons, and having met the book it standards you were rewarded with a button that looked like the image above and a coupon for pizza from Pizza Hut.

The Original NES-Nintendo Gaming System

Oh how I love my Wii. But this is where it all started. With classics such as Mario, Duck Hunt and Zelda.

The Easy Bake Oven

Last but certainly, not least- The easy bake oven. What little girl didn't want the baking world at her fingertips? You could make your very own gooey miniture versions of doughy under-baked, baked goods. And the fire hazards, oh the fire hazards that came along with them.

There you have it..10 of the many things I remember, and loved! What do you remember?

My oldest had a serious thing about Rainbow Brite! I made her the most rocking awesome RB costume one year. I also found a RB doll a few years ago at DI, maybe you should look there? By the way, your list made me feel old, very, very old. Since the stuff you like is the stuff my kids did. Sigh.

My favorite was the book it buttons. I loved getting my own personal tiny pizza that never filled me up but was still good because it was all mine and I earned it.
And slap braclets were awesome, I still have a slap on watch.

Hey, I remember the California Raisens. Heard it through the grapevine! Gosh, you're giving me flashbacks. I started crying when I saw that Easy Bake Oven. I think that was MINE. Give it BACK. I've been wondering where it went.

Thanks for lurking me!

I love this! I remember all of those things fondly. I especially loved Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite when I was little, and when I got to be a preteen, my friends and I were obsessed with 90210.

I still have my original nintendo with about 10 games. My wife (Korynn) doesn't like to play it. I wish that I still had my atari(not the 2600 one) it was just as fun as the nintendo.

thanks for visiting me the other day. I remember all those things. I use to beg my mom to take me to McDonald so I could get another raisin :)

You know what - I still have Rainbow Brite's friend, Twink. I think my parents didn't know who was the main character of the show. Oh well, it's good to own a sidekick anyways. I can't believe I still have it. I gave my children most of the items I contained in a box below my parents house for years. Some of the "big ticket" items were a gray Pound Puppy, a Cabbage Patch doll (with adoption papers) :0),and a very old wind up lullaby Curious George. Fun stuff.
