Resourceful is My Middle Name

>>  Monday, August 10, 2009

I don't know how I get myself into some of the predicaments that I do, but I do. It's a darn good thing I am as resourceful as I am.

We are preparing to take our Camping Trailer on its maiden voyage. Which means a lot of trips from the house to the trailer. Loads of clothes, linen, food etc. etc. etc. as we are still getting the trailer set up (so we don't have to do this every time we use it).

I had one last load to take out, I trucked my eager-self to the trailer, goods in hand and keys ready. Stopped. Dead in my tracks. The key wouldn't go into the lock. Hmm..worked just fine 20 minutes ago. What was I to do? I needed to get on the inside of the trailer. Maybe the lock was stuck.

Think Danielle, Think! You know what I did? I sent my Mo-tay through a pass through door under the dinette. A good little helper he is. Still stuck. My little guy, as good of a helper as he is, the the deadbolt wouldn't budge.

I tried to shimmy through the same pass through door, with NO luck. I was too wide in one area or another. I was just about to panic when I remembered the emergency exit window at the rear of the trailer. I coaxed my little helper to the window and instructed him (through the glass) on how to open it. It took a ladder, 4 trips in and out through said window and the dismantling of one lock....but disaster averted. Problem solved. We may need to invest in a new deadbolt before too long, but I didn't have to call a lock smith! It's a darn good thing Resourceful is my middle name.

Good thing your little ones are still little or resourceful would be your middle name with nothing to show for it.

Get the deadbolt! :)

I just would have started crying hysterically.

Reason #42 why we have kids. To make them shimmy into and out of small places. Good call!!

I think I would have peed my pants laughing so hard if I'd seen that. Good thing your little guy was old enough to help you out!

I'm so glad you didn't get stuck. Now that would be bad.

I love it when our kids are so willing to help - too bad when it doesn't work out. Yes, you are resourceful. What a frustrating time for you!

That would have been fun to see. You are quite clever to figure this out.

I'm so jealous of your new little camper toy. My inlaws recently got one and we've had fun playing in it.

Way to go for your good little helpers.
