The Evolution...of a Blog
>> Saturday, August 29, 2009
There have been many posts done, that talk about the life cycle of a blog. The evolution of blogs. etc. etc. etc. I am not here to mimic. Just inquire. As I prepared for my recent bloggy move, I began to think.......
What draws us to each other? What keeps us around? What happens to those we are used to seeing, when suddenly they become strangers? I know for me, it's kind of like losing touch with an old friend.
Life changes, things change, new blogs come into existence and we move on. I hate to use the phrase "In with the new, and out with the old". But I think, at times, it very much applies. There are some blogs that I read religiously, in my early days of blogging. For one reason or another, whether it be the blog became dormant, my interests changed or the blogs took a course -I had not yet mapped, I have moved on. I have become inactive.
At times I have felt guilty. A tinge of pain as I -in a sense, abandon those I once "knew". But with clarity, I've decided something. Something very important. It's okay. It's okay if I choose to move on. It's okay if they move away from me. I am a firm believer in fate and destiny. That there are no coincidences. Those that surround me are here for a reason. If they move on, they are moving for a reason. We learn and grow each day. We help each other to learn and grow. Maybe those that have moved on, were simply all 'grown'. While I too, have found myself 'grown'.

Great post, very thoughtful. It reminds me that blog relationships mirror relationships IRL with ebbs and tides. I think it is part of the natural evolution and like you, I'm okay with it as what is meant to be. I am blessed and I work hard to have minimal drama with my friends irl and in blogland. I am glad you and I visit in blogland, it's real, it's stimulating, and kind, and I appreciate you very much.
There are blogs I read in the beginning that I no longer read. to be honest I really only keep up on those that make the effort to comment back. With me it is a very give and take relationship!
hey, has your kiddo started preschool yet? I am terrified Syd starts Monday, btw I feel guilty when I realize I have stopped reading a blog that I used to read daily, except there are a few I don't miss at all!!
I really love this post. It's true - we start reading blogs for a reason, and we stop reading blogs for a reason. 99.9% of the time it has nothing to do with the writer, only with us as the reader.
This is a very good, thoughtful post. Ebbs and tides. This summer wasn't my best for blogging, but I am hoping to hop on a tide and rejoin my wonderful peeps who have been so kind to me. You included, dear!
Well, how long have you been around? I think for the most part I still read everyone I read before unless I haven't found them yet. But, I have noticed that a lot of bloggers have gone dormant or slowed down. There's a whole new influx that are equally delightful though.
What a great post! It's interesting too, that it can change after a few weeks or months. It may just be that for whatever reason we're not getting anything out of the other blog we're reading and when you're around longer you find more and others and new blogs/friends to visit and somewhere there's gotta be a trade off. Holy cow that was a crazy long sentence.
