Get your Random on!

-Why do so many of the children’s books rhyme, line after line? Doesn’t anyone believe in a good story anymore? What am I missing?

-I suggested that we go swimming over the Memorial Day weekend. Shocking, I know. We did (go swimming). I enjoyed it, despite almost drowning myself and Mo-Tay at the bottom of the slide. I’m looking in to going for a weekly water aerobics class and punch passes for family swimming every other week. *I’m terrified of the water and will do just about anything to get out of a trip to the swimming pool*

-For so long our boys have slept through the night and we wouldn’t see or hear from them until morning. Now that Mo-Tay is a ‘big boy’, he gets up in the middle of the night to use the facilities. It’s surreal.

-I’ve decided there is a Facebook quiz for just about everything. Want to know what you should be doing in life? Who you will marry? Or even the gender of your next kid? No fear, they’ve got it covered. My favorite, are the quizzes created by the FB users. Specifically, the quizzes with the most spelling and grammar errors.

-The UPS man pulled up the other day and dropped off a package. I wasn’t expecting anything. Confused, I opened it to find a book sent to me by Random House. A FREE book. No catch. No gimmicks. I forgot I had signed up with them…..6 months ago. Free is good. They sent me: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Anyone else interested in reading it? I will mail it to you when I’m done. In fact..I am going to start mailing off all the books I read (that belong to me of course, I imagine the Library wouldn’t appreciate my generosity). The way I see it, like knowledge- a book is no good if it’s not shared. All I ask is that you pass it on as well (either through mail or donation). The idea came to me, after another blogger offered to send me the books she was reading. Interested?

I took water aerobics once. Along with 15 80 year-old ladies.

LaurieJ 28 May, 2009 09:16

That is one of my favorite books!!
I even bought it on CD after reading it and that is awesome too.

I hate all of the FB quizzes and how they take up the whole home page. Really people...shouldn't you be spending your time blogging interesting things for me to read instead?

Kristina-
I could only be so lucky! With any luck they will have bad eyesight and poor memory. Then they either won't be able to see me or won't remember seeing me in my bathing suit. It's a win-win.

If I suck (because there is a reason I don't take regular aerobics classes), I don't have to compare myself to anyone else in the class. I've got youth on my side. Although...if I suck it up and they don't.....

That whole rhyme thing is suppose to be good for their little minds, but I agree with you, why not give them a good story? That's got to be good for their minds, and imaginations!

I love to read so if you want to pass along some good books to me--I am more than willing to participate!!

Water aerobics is great--I too, did it once along with 10 little old ladies.

very random and very interesting... lol!

Sandy 28 May, 2009 09:44

Hmm, water aerobics would require me to put on a bathing suit. No, I don't think so!

Donna 28 May, 2009 11:05

I took one of those Facebook quizzes just this morning. That's great that you get FREE books from Random House!

I am dying to read that book, it has been highly recommended to me, so add me to the list of wanters....

I am so sick of those quizzes on facebook. I took one the other day (don't ask me why) that said my name should be Rose. It figured out that brilliant answer after 6 quuestions, one of them was what color is my hair. Huh?

FB quizzes can be very involving, I've learned stuff about myself I had forgotten.
I love the pay it forward book club idea and would love to play along. I can reciprocate with some books too. Thank you!

i love water aerobics. it is a great workout and the old ladies are usually so funny.

i agree- fb quizzes are usually poorly written.

the guernsey literary book is one of my all-time favorites! i love the characters! have a great time reading it. i hope you enjoy it. what a great idea to pass it on!

Erin 28 May, 2009 11:37

I don't enjoy swimming much either. But I will be staying at a hotel this weekend with a swimming pool, so we will be swimming!

How neat to get a free book. I have never even heard of it. And I like the idea of doing book swaps. Sounds like great fun!

Oh I love these random types of posts. A UPS guy bringing you books for free! Does it get any better then that?

Fiauna 28 May, 2009 14:27

I happen to like reading rhyming children's books. Sometimes the story is so lame that the rhyme is the thing that saves it.

I think the book-mailing idea is a great one! Sign me up.

Jo 28 May, 2009 15:43

You're scared of the water? Hmm, I didn't think anything scared you. But that shows how much you love your kids, you take them swimming anyway.
I love the mispelled quizzes!

Lee 28 May, 2009 17:18

I'm scared of slides, not water.
I love getting random books from people, and I always lend my books out!

Jamie 28 May, 2009 20:30

I'm terrified of water slides. Not sure if it's the rushing water that could suck me under or the giant wedgie. Maybe both.

It could be worse...Mo-Tay could pee the bed!

I loved TGLaPPPS book! And the FB quizzes that are horribly done are my favorites

Dawn Parsons Smith 01 June, 2009 15:17

I bought that book after reading a fabulous review about it! (wink wink!) I have been saving it for my summer reading which starts today! HOORAY!

Ginny 01 June, 2009 21:49

We have a small pool for the kids... you're boys can swim, and we can have cool feet... it's great! Come on over!

Cranberryfries 10 June, 2009 15:27

My friend just told me to read this book, was it good? Did you like it? What a fun idea to pass on books. Perhaps I'll have to do some with a few of mine.
