Bedtime Lullabies

>>  Tuesday, May 19, 2009

As I tucked my babies in to bed, I discovered something. I know only 2 childrens songs in their entirety. That’s it. Gladys and Twinkle Twinkle. Oh, and Itsy Bitsy Spider. So, maybe 3 total.

My Fatherson used to sing to me all the time. What ever happened to that playlist of songs I kept ‘on demand’? Gone. The space within my memory bank now occupied with policies and procedures, phone numbers and worries. Gone are the days of old.

I don’t remember growing up….

Beautiful picture of your sleeping son. Beautiful post, thanks, EV.

Huh! I'll have to think about how many nursery rhymes I know!

i love that pic... he is so cute!

B 19 May, 2009 09:06

First, that picture is so adorable!

Second, just make up the words, my husband does it all the time. He THINKS he knows the words, but he doesn't. I don't think it makes much of a difference, they still bop along to it. ;)

That picture is ADORABLE!!

I remember songs from my childhood. I like to sing them to my kids--especially the one about the King with a Big Nose Ring.

Cassie 19 May, 2009 10:06

I've actually started singing songs to Jackson and then later had to go look up the actual lyrics online because I have completely forgotten how they go!

Sally's World 19 May, 2009 12:15

love the picture....i used to know so many songs, i've forgotten them all now, and I'm pretty sure i've scarred a few of my nieces and nephews/godchildren for life by making up the words as i go along!!!!

Erin 19 May, 2009 13:33

I have like 10 childrens' cds, so we can listen to music at our house. After hearing them a few (hundred) times, you start to remember the words! :)

Lee 19 May, 2009 13:41

That's so adorable!
When I was little I used to sleep in the weirdest places.
Under the coffee table was a big one.

I like this post! I can completely relate. And somehow, singing songs from All-American Rejects to lull them to sleep just isn't the same.

Jo 19 May, 2009 16:18

How cute is that? All sleepy by on the stair no less!
Um, yeah, I totally relate the brain storage problem. The only thing is, you are going to be in sad shape at my age if you are struggling already!

Missy 19 May, 2009 17:29

I have/had no collection of songs! I just make them up as I go! The kids never knew the differenc... and now that you mentioned growing up, I do not remember a lot either~ That could be good or that could be bad...

Fiauna 19 May, 2009 19:01

You know? I really liked this post. I don't remember growing up, either. But I'm pretty sure it happened, because I can't wear my old clothes anymore.

We tend to sing songs on the fly. Just make it up as we go!

lagirl 19 May, 2009 21:35

Sweet Baby!
I used to sing all sorts of fun songs to my kids, then as soon as they could speak they would say, "MaMa, no sing" and cover my mouth with their hand...Guess I'll never make it to American Idol!

Wendyburd1 19 May, 2009 22:36

That is such an adorable picture!!

Stephanie 20 May, 2009 14:11

Ahhh! I love that babes can sleep anywhere.

"Go on home your mothers calling" "There was a little house in the middle of the woods"- The infamous "The cow kicked Nellie" and of course the make it up as you go fathers helper "Hush little baby" Learn these little gems and you can fool them until they are 13 years old. IT WORKED ON YOU !!! Then came the Tally goose lady and I hung up my silver toned tales for good-LUV U Fatherson

Me (aka Danielle) 20 May, 2009 15:45

See..I TOTALLY forgot about 'Go on home..." I can remember that one! I can't believe I haven't taught them 'The Cow Kicked Nellie'. Man..I am slackin'!

That picture is totally hilarious. How kids can sleep in such uncomfortable positions is funny. Ah, I have forgotten MANY children's songs, so I bought a Disney CD that has all of those old fun-time songs on it. We have fun listening to it with my granddaughter.

I had a lullaby cd I would paly for my kids...when I hear the songs now I almost cry every time! Some of them were songs my parents sang, too.

Donna 21 May, 2009 13:41

I blank out on children's songs a lot. Like you said, I guess it happens when we grow up. I'm getting a little better because my calling at church is Nusery leader, so I have to know at least a few on demand.
That is such an adorable picture! He must have been really tired!

lagirl 22 May, 2009 10:33

God bless you, you are so good/kind/wonderful to answer my techy questions. So once again I have "another question"...When a current blog shows in the Dashboard roll I notice most have photos/pictures to the side of them. I don't! What setting do I need to change so that a photo will show in the Dashboard???

Please & Thanks you!!
