On This Day in History
>> Tuesday, January 20, 2009
Regardless of ones political views, one cannot deny the magnitude of this moment. A moment in time that will live forever in the history books of our future. For today, as a nation, we will receive our 44th president of the United States of America. President elect Barack Hussein Obama. Born August 4, 1961 in Honolulu Hawaii. I have listened intently as he has been compared to President Kennedy. Tagging him “a John Kennedy for our Times”, as he has built up an excitement that has not been seen since President Kennedy. It is said that like Kennedy, “Obama is young and speaks for the new generation [of American politics]”. (1)
I do not wish to explain my personal views or expectations of what may come in the days that follow. I do however want to welcome the change. I believe that change can be cleansing, giving the nation an opportunity to make anew. Only time will tell if we are able to seize these opportunities with our new leader at our ships helm. But I am hopeful. Hopeful, despite the fear and apprehension of what our future may hold. I will remain hopeful, as I continue to pray for our leaders –both new and old, that they will choose to lead us with the strength of Gods hand in all things.
