What Does that Remind You Of?

I almost never sit in silence. My world is constantly filled with the sounds of the radio, people chattering, the television, or the babbles of my 2 boys. As I gave this some thought, I realized that almost everything we do is surrounded not only by noise, obviously, but more specifically music.

Think about it for a minute. Television commercials backed by memorable jingles, and music filled elevators. Every where we go there is music playing in some form or fashion, whether it be the background music played in a department store, the radios in our cars, often times we are exposed to music when put on hold during a phone call to places like doctors offices.

As I sat within the comfort of my car earlier today, I was taken away by the next song on the radio. That very song took me to a moment in time and space within my memories, images so vivid, it was as if I had never left.

There are many moments within my history that are hooked to various pieces of music. Some of those songs, I refuse to listen to anymore, as the memories can sometimes be painful ones. While others are worth re-living again and again. Like Paul Brandts -Love Is a Beautiful Thing (and similar remakes of the song). Its been over 8 years since I dawned my wedding dress for its big debut as this song played. The distance in time doesn't seem to matter. This song causes that rise in my throat -without fail, as I fight back the tears. The smell of cake, and the sounds of the folding chairs being pushed across the gymnasium floor all seem to flood back to me, as I relive those very moments in time.

It is no wonder the true power that music can have over ones mind and emotions. Music has the ability to cause emotions to well up within us. Causing feelings that are gripping, and often times seem to have emerged from nowhere. So true as I think about my own experiences, and the power music has within my life. I am proof as well, that one doesn't even need to be musically inclined to be so strongly affected by music. Its a natural occurence that takes place.

My reason for bringing all of this up? There isn't one, no profound reason, or moral to my story. Just something to think about, along with the following quote, which seems to sum things up perfectly- Music is what feelings sound like. ~Author Unknown.
