Do-Dos The Noo Noos

A not so well known secret, to some, is the fact that I have more nicknames than I do purses (remember, I'm a purse addict). Okay, so maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it really paints the picture for you. My dad is famous for giving me nicknames over the years, and some how 99% of them have stuck -permanently. To those that don't know any better, one would think that my given name is 'Dandi', as that is how my mother will address cards, gift tags, and even introduces me to people.

Well my boys are no exception in this little 'family tradition'. Most of their nicknames were generated while they were in the womb and have evolved over time. A very common name for our Seth is Settie. With time Settie became Spaghetti, followed up by Settie Spaghetti Ba-getti. But stay with me, the evolution doesn't stop there. Somehow, out of laziness against our own mess of names that had been created, Settie Spaghetti turned into Mr. Noodles (as in Spaghetti Noodles).

Kyles family, although they all have their own nick-names for each other, are more famous for just re-arranging words. For example, I have often been called Dal-Yen (which in the family dictionary is Danielle sounded out backwards -don't ask, they just make these things up as they go. Although they claim it is "backwards" It's typically their own arrangement of the word).

Somehow we ended up with my natural ability to generate nicknames, which created Noodles, followed by Kyles new arrangement of the word. Our Seth's ever changing nickname of Noodles has been reincarnated as Doonles (get it? Noodles sounded out 'backwards').

But it is never ending. From that, I have begun calling Seth -Do-Dos the Noo Noos. If you have managed to stay with me and track how Seth gained this ridiculous name of Do-Dos the Noo Noos, you are probably hoping that I will spare you, and get to the point some time soon.

Well my friend, the point of this? Nothing more than sheer embarrassment. I'm diligent about archiving my blog and creating paper/book copies. I fully intend on this being discovered years from now. I can't wait to tell the first girl that my Settie brings home, that we lovingly call him the Do-Do's! Being able to embarrass someone in your life for all eternities is just one perk, if not a god given right of being a mother, and I intend on exercising my rights to their fullest.

*To my Seth- as you sit and read this years from now. Just know that I love you. When I have moved on, you will smile and this will no longer be an embarrassment, but a good memory. Trust me on this one! -Mommee

We talk about nicknames at work a lot. My nickname in my family is Tina, which I hate. In fact, I did one of those tags and stated this, and I think my family was shocked. But, if some people in my family DON'T call me Tina, it's weird. It sounds too cheerleady.

I've always gone by Kristina. My friends have recently started calling me Stina, which I'm OK with for some reason, because it's more unique. I have a nickname for Adam, but it's our personal nickname, that he would kill me if I said it in public. ;)
